General Info on old pets
On this page you can see all the old pets. You cannot create these pets anymore, yet you may still see some around neopets. Those are named unconverted pets. This page shows what pets used to look like before neopets changed their layout and customisation was added to the site. Most pets automatically changed shape to converted pets. Some pets however, didn't change, and the owners were given the option to either convert their pet, or keep it the way it was. Examples of such pets are tyrannian krawk and msp poogle. These pets in unconverted form cannot wear clothes, only trinkets and backgrounds.
Whats on this page?
This page can pull up all the old pets. You can sort them either on species, or on colour. If you select pet you will be able to pick a pet and all colours this pet used to come in will be shown. If you select colour you will be able to pick a colour and all pets will be shown that used to come in this colour. The red X's mean that that pet doesn't come in that certain colour.
Just because a pet colour is shown on this page, doesn't mean that you can actually paint your pet in that colour. Some colours do exist in images, but were never released. Other colours, like stone and glass, don't exist anymore. To see how you can paint your pet you should check the Rainbow Pool to see which colours are available. This page will also show the pets in converted shape, which will be the way a pet looks if you paint it at this moment.

People buy pets for all sorts of reasons:
BD pets, Painted pets, LE pets, UC Pets, etc.
The question is, how do these people get these pets, and so many of them at that?
This guide aims to explain to you everything you need to know about the Pet Trade and the Pound Chat neoboard.
Pet sales are dependant on an array of factors.
Here's a basis of what matters when you have a pet to sell.
What sells?
These are the types of pets which are being sold regularly.
I'll explain each of them in detail with a section below.
- Battledome Pets (or more commonly know as BD Pets)
- Limited Edition Pets (or more commonly known as LE Pets)
The name of a pet could be the 'Make or Break' for the sale.
Since a pet's colour, species or stats can be altered through various means, the only thing which is unchangeable is its name.
There are many ways to define a name. As this section is important, I will cover it in another section below.
But in the meantime, these are the abbreviations you'll see.
- RN (Real Named)
- DN (Decently Named)
Levels matter to every pet dealer, not just BD pet dealers.
This is because, if the buying account is under 4 months old, it cannot adopt pets which have a level higher than 1.
They can adopt painted pets of certain colours though, so knowing the level matters.
Avvie Pets!
Pets which get you an avatar are usually priced higher than normal.
Why? Simply because of it's demand for it on the Neoboards and even for Avatar collectors.
*note: some of them require an additional petpet or item, attached or fed to it as well
Pet Types
Here I'll explain what each type is and how they can sell.
Each type has a different attraction value and thus should be priced differently.
Of course, the most high valued pets are the Unconverted Neopets! Which we won't be talking about here, as they require a whole separate topic lol!
Battledome Pets
Pets like these are, suffice to say, the best fighters in Neopia.
And as Neopets has War Plots and many Neopians value the Battledome quite highly, pets like these go for a decent amount.
Their purpose is to fight in the Battledome, nothing more.
Having high and balanced stats aren't easy, as most of these BD Pets are hand-trained and not simply zapped day by day.
Thus, these pets are, safe to say, the most expensive in the Pet Trade.
Painted Pets
The easiest to obtain, and also the most commonly sold.
Pets which are painted, are sold mainly for their colours.
Painted pets are considered a statement among many Neopians, as Paint Brushes are usually expensive.
Painted pets are always cheaper than the Paint Brushes themselves, and that is why they are worth buying.
Limited Edition Pets
The pets which you can't just create.
These pets are sought after simply because of their limited supply.
Poogles, Cybunnys, Jetsams and Chombys are perhaps the most traded among LE Pets.
They can be sold as Basic pets, meaning having a basic colour and no stats worth mentioning, or they could be sold as a painted one.
Either way, they are usually more expensive than Painted pets usually cost.
The most sought after, and highest priced LE Pets, are the Krawks and Draiks.
That is because despite being very hard and expensive to get in Neopia, they are also considered a Status statement among Neopians.
Lab Rats
We've come to the part where pets are being zapped day by day, in the hopes of having a nice colour change or some stats boost.
Should the pets change in colour, they'll be considered Painted pets instead.
However, the purpose of this additional section is to clarify the difference between a Lab Rat and a BD Pet.
Lab Rats are not hand-trained, meaning they do not visit the Training Schools and boost their stats little by little, day by day, codestone by codestone.
The results of their 'trainings' in the Lab is random, and highly erratic.
This results in a total unbalance in their stats, making it harder to battle in the BD.
What they can be considered as in, a potential BD Pet.
Potential BD Pets are pets which have already been started out with a few boosted stats, and need more hand-training to become a decent BD Pet.
Sales of these pets are uncommon as the demand is not there.
But should there be a sale of one, you can count on them being pretty much the same price of a Painted LE Pet.
Getting Your Goods
Knowing the pets is one thing, getting them is another.
The best way of getting these pets is by using programs, but you can also do it legitly.
Here I have listed the 3 best ways in getting a pet.
Pound Surfing
If you have too much time on your hands, or you just wanna stay away from the programs (I can't imagine why, lol).
Legit Pound Surfing ensures that you remain freeze-free, but the chances of successfully grabbing a pet is sometimes close to zilge.
Go to the Adoption side of the pound, and browse through every pet until you find one that you like, then you grab it.
Remember though, adopting has an adopt fee.
In order to adopt, you must have a decent amount of NPs on hand to successfully grab the pet.
Auto Adopting
Auto Adopting is when you activate a program to surf the pound for you.
You key in a list of the colours/stats/species you want to adopt, and the Auto Adopter will do it for you.
This is a cool program to leave on at a time when the pound is usually full of good catches.
The freeze rate for Auto Adopting is relatively low, and I've only been frozen once for it.
Transfer Intercepting
My weapon of choice. :P This is, believe it or not, much more fun than leaving an Auto Adopter on as you get to actually participate in the sniping.
Transfer Intercepting is when you realize there is transfer which might be going on through the pound, and you want to intercept that transfer.
this can be done 2 ways, legitly or with a program. I recommend doing it with a program.
I use an amazing Pet Adopter which gets me my pet all the time.
- I open up my Pet Adopter, and login to my adopting account through the program
- Then I get onto my browser, and log on to another account, any account, it doesn't matter as long as it can surf the Neoboards.
- Once there, I lurk around the Neopian Pound board and look for any trades which might be going on.
- I pull out the names of any and every pet I suspect is being pounded/pound-transferred soon, and I key it into a list which is taken by my open program.
- I'll then continue to lurk, pulling out names after names, until my adopting account is full with the pets I have sniped.
- The fun part is when I log in to my adopting account through the browser, and see the Neomails coming in asking me to return the pet. Like hell no!
Pet's Here, Now What?
People are buying pets everywhere, and there are some Pet Resellers around even, who will buy from you and then sell it somewhere or sometime else.
This is what you need to know to get yourself started on being a full-fledged Pet Dealer.
All is in a Name
As a name makes or breaks the pet sale, putting down whether it is WN or not makes a big difference.
Here are my explanations of the abbreviations and their examples:
- RW (Real Word) names - Names which are actually real words found in a dictionary. Examples would be 'Awesome' or 'Stellar'.
- RN (Real Named) names - Names which are actual real life names. Examples would be 'Lauren' or 'Billie'.
- WN (Well Named) names - Names which are not real, but sound very nice or is very well thought of. Examples would be 'Sparkyl' or 'Myriel'.
- DN (Decently Named) names - Names which are pretty alright, but not the best either. Examples would be 'Casturrr' or 'Biijouu'.
- BN (Badly Named) names - Names which are horrid, contain many underscores and/or numbers. Examples would be 'r6_simplicity_1_2' or 'jane_jane_jane_5_5__'
Format? What format?
Posting in format means to list down the details as to how the pet is, aiming to give potential buyers what they need to know about the pet, while also not being too obvious should there be lurkers from TNT around.
A pretty standard format is list down the Name Format, Level, Image of the pet and the HB/AB.
Name Format - A name format is the name of the pet hidden behind characters. An example would be to hide the name 'Stellar' to 'Xxxxxxx'. Capital letters are replaced with a capital X, and small letters are replaced with a small x. Should the name have underscores or numbers in them, such as '3ros1on_', the format would be '#xxx#xx_'. This shows that numbers are represented by the # symbol and underscores are not hidden at all.
Image - Having an image of the pet saves the buyer time and effort in wondering how the pet looks like. Upload an image of the pet by going to your User Lookup, and right-clicking on the pet you wanna sell. You should see 'Copy Image Location' in the dropdown menu, so copy it and paste the image URL in your selling thread.
HB/AB - HB means Highest Bid, and AB means Automatic Buy. Having a HB and an AB gives buyers some direction as to how much to bid.
How much is enough, how much is too little?
Pricing the pets are a pain in itself. You never know how much people would pay for these pets, yet you don't wanna lose out potential buyers becuse you've set your prices too high.
Good pricing comes with experience, and you can see that from the seasoned pet dealers' threads.
A good way to price your pets is by using a table which you create by yourself beforehand.
This table should include how much the pet would cost with each attribute, such as having the pet to cost 2k for each defence point, or 10% of the colour's PB price.

Getting from one home to another
Now you know, by doing it yourself, that trnasferring through the pound is risky.
There are many other intercepters just like you, and not posting the pet's name in the Neoboards doesn't ensure it's safety as well.
Many other cheaters run Auto Adopters, so putting it into the pound poses a threat.
If the pet is valuable, like a Krawk or a Draik or an avvie pet, then as much as possible, use the Neopets transfers.
Those are the safest and they are uninterceptable.
However, if you have no more transfers left, or just wanna use the pound, always exercise extreme care.
Give your buyer the exact time in NST that you'll be pounding, and ask your buyer to use one of the adopting programs to make sure he/she gets the pet successfully.
Wait A Minute, How About Petpets/Petpetpets?
As flourishing as the pet trade is, so are the petpet and petpetpet trades.
Some petpets and petpetpets give avatars as well, and are valuable to have attached to the pet, especially if they are aged.
So you should bear in mind that if the petpet or petpetpet is valuable, hike up the price of your pet for sale.
Final Words
That wraps up my guide on the Pet Trades, I hope this guide will create more pound intercepters and pet traders among us. :)
